The phosphors degrade. Chromalux's phosphors are very stable, yet they too will degrade eventually. It is best to replace them every 18-36 months to assure the most accurate natural spectrum light output. You should also dust the tubes occasionally since dirt cuts down on the amount of light cast by the lamp. Ballasts need proactive replacement. We recommend using an open grid type cover that allows 100% of the light to shine through. It is important to replace the tubes before they burn out. If you can see both ends have darkened, you have waited too long.
