How does RED Light Therapy Work and Why

on Apr 19 2023
How does RED Light Therapy Work and Why What used to be considered a fringe therapy is now widely used and accepted!  Red Light Therapy has been used in health practitioners’ offices for decades.  It was a well-kept secret…  but that’s not the case any longer. Red light therapy, may also be referred to as Deep Penetrating Light, works by penetrating deep into the skin tissue and delivering light frequency to the cells. This energizes the cells and encourages fast reproduction.  Cells absorb the energy/frequency through the mitochondria, the part of the cell responsible for energy production, and instructs the cells to divide. Red light therapy has a wide range of applications for both skincare and pain relief, and is used frequently in applications for anti-aging. A therapeutic treatment that uses RED LEDs tuned to specific frequencies produce low-level wavelengths that penetrate the skin in a non-invasive way.  The mitochondria in the body’s skin cells absorb the red light to create energy that studies show helps with cellular repair and health.   Cell Regeneration * Improved Complexion *  Anti Aging A Study referenced in the National Library of Medicine conducted a randomized, controlled study of 136 volunteers. After 30 red LED treatment sessions of varying lengths, the subjects experienced an improved skin complexion and feeling, including less roughness and denser collagen. Collagen is a naturally-occurring protein responsible for keeping your skin firm, elastic, and hydrated. As we get older, our bodies produce less collagen, which can cause sagging skin and wrinkles. This study shows that red light therapy can boost collagen production and improve the skin’s appearance. A study out of the Medical College of Wisconsin showed increases in growth of 155-171% of normal human skin cells in a lab. The same researchers reported that Navy SEALs experienced significantly faster healing of musculoskeletal training injuries using LED light therapies. Using red light therapy enhances your skin cells’ metabolism, and encourage cell production. These new cells replace the damaged ones that contribute to the signs of aging, such as wrinkles, crow’s feet, and fine lines. The red light therapy can also reach far into the muscle, thus allowing cells in the muscle to regenerate faster, resulting in faster recovery and easing pain-related symptoms. LED Technologies and Red Light Therapy Used by Professional dermatologist, red light treatments can do a lot to help improve the skin’s complexion and reduce muscle pain.  LED Technologies, maker of many RED Light tools sold by Tools for Wellness offers devices you can use at home which can be just as effective when used correctly. An in-house consumer study by LED Technoligies and reVive Light Therapy® looked at how effective handheld red LED light devices reduced wrinkles.  Participants used the devices for 10 weeks and reported their results at the end. A total of 97.4% of participants noted a significant improvement in their wrinkles, fine lines, and skin tone. The results speak for themselves.   By the end of the study, participants reported additional improvements in: Crow’s-feet Brown spots Wrinkles Fine lines Skin texture and tone Overall, 97.4% of subjects reported visible improvement in fine lines, wrinkles, and skin tone, with: 76.9% of the subjects rating their improvement in fine lines at the highest levels of Good, Above Average, or Significant over the 10-week treatment cycle 69.2% of the subjects rating their improvement in crow’s feet at the highest levels of Good, Above Average, or Significant over the 10-week treatment cycle 92.3% of the subjects rating their improvement in skin tone at the highest levels of Good, Above Average, or Significant over the 10-week treatment cycle Participants reported consistent week-over-week improvement in the reduction of pores, fine lines, crow’s feet, brown spots, and new breakouts, with accompanying improvement in existing acne, skin tone and texture, and overall skin condition. Muscle Pain Red Light Therapy is commonly recognized as a resource for the anti-aging benefits, but it is also helpful with reduction of muscle pain and soreness.  A study published in the National Library of Medicine looked at how identical twins reacted to red LED light therapy, with one twin using the real thing and the other a placebo.  The twin using real LED light therapy exhibited lower inflammation and muscle atrophy levels. The treatments also reduced fatigue and improved muscle strength and size. The study results found that LED light therapy helped reduce muscle pain, damage, and atrophy. The study also noted that red LED light therapy could be used in rehabilitation and sports programs to increase muscle mass and speed recovery from injuries.   What is Red Light Therapy Good for? Red LED light therapy is effective at for skin and health conditions, including: Anti-aging: Red light therapy is an anti-aging treatment that reduces wrinkles and other signs of aging. Scar reduction: Red light therapy can also be used to minimize scars by reducing inflammation and supporting tissue regeneration. Pain treatment: Combined red and infrared light therapy is an effective, natural form of pain relief for people suffering from nerve or muscle pain. Muscle recovery: When combined with infrared light therapy, red light therapy can help athletes, weekend warriors, and everyone in between to speed muscle recovery and stimulate healing after working out. Oral health: Red light therapy improves oral health by relieving pain. When paired with blue light treatment, the two can help prevent gum disease, whiten teeth, and combat oral microbes and bacteria that cause bad breath, all while reducing oral pain.   More to come!  RED Light therapy and other similar frequency based light therapies continue to be studied and new treatments are emerging.  As noted, the most popular benefits of red light therapy involve treating signs of age in the skin.  Red light treatments can help reduce the appearance of: Wrinkles Crow’s feet Dark spots Additionally, red light therapy can be combined with blue light therapy to help with inflammation and circulation, which helps accelerate healing.  Improving inflammation and circulation using both therapies can help accelerate healing related to acne and blemishes.  Another popular application of red light therapy includes regenerating muscle tissue, gum tissue, and other areas of the body. Other benefits of red light therapy include: Reduces stretch marks Improves skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea Encourages hair growth for those with alopecia The added benefit of using these treatments is low to no side effects.  The tools do not generate head to work and are cool to the touch.  Use may produce subtle redness on the skin, in rare cases may rash or peel. Red Light Therapy, and other frequency based light therapies including Blue Light and Infrared Light, are proven treatments and have been researched in depth.   At Tools for Wellness we work hard to source quality products that help our customers Live Smarter™. 5 Benefits of Shower Head Filters You May Not Know

on Mar 29 2023
Do you know what’s in your water?  Generally speaking most of us think our local municipal water that’s piped into our homes is clean safe water.   What many of us don’t realise is the potential multitude of chemicals in our water that can have an affect on our bodies. We hear about water contamination frequently….  we tend to be a little naïve and ignore whats in our water.  Most water treatment facilities use a heave doses of Chlorine, Chloramine, and other chemicals to clean our water.  Many people have such high amounts you can smell it when showering. As people are learning more about whats in their water many are concerned about the water they are bathing and how it greatly impacts their health.   Most will agree that clean healthy water is a good thing…  but there are some benefits you may not know about.  Here are the top 5 reasons to use a shower filter.     1.  Healthier Hair and Skin! Municipal water is processed through an intense sanitation and treatment process before being piped into our communities.  Treatment most often includes adding chlorine or chloramine to the water to disinfect.  While chlorine is highly effective at killing bacteria, it is toxic to humans.  Small amounts of these chemicals can have a profound effect on the body, especially considering most shower daily. Chlorine not only kills the bad bacteria but the good bacteria too.  It washes over your skin and destroys the Vitamin E and other fatty acids that keep your skin soft and smooth.  This often leads to dry skin, itchy skin, rashes, and even acne. There are similar problems for hair.  Chlorine in the water strips the natural oils that keep your hair looking healthy.  It can dry hair out and leave it frizzy and hard to manage. Additionally for those that use hair coloring, these chemicals can quickly strip the coloring from hair.  A quality shower filter can help prolong the life of colored hair. A filtered shower head neutralizes the chemicals and leaves you squeaky clean with all the moisture your skin and hair desperately needs.      2.   It can help you FEEL Better! Besides the physical effects that chlorine and other chemicals have on the body, it can also affect the mind.  Studies have found that chlorine exposure can cause fatigue, mental depression, and a lowered autoimmune function. Switching out your shower head for a filtered version will help you feel more fit and alert! Additionally, small levels of chlorine have been found to irritate the throat and lungs.  Most of us use hot water when we shower, which turns the chlorine into a gaseous steam that is more easily inhaled.  The simple addition of a filtered shower head to remove the chlorine, you can reduce that discomfort.      3.  You’ll look Younger Do you know what FREE RADICALS ARE?  Free radicals are oxygen-containing molecules with an uneven number of electrons.   This uneven number of electrons allows free radicals to react easily with other molecules.  Free radicals can cause large chain chemical reactions in your body because they react so easily with other molecules. It turns out they play a role in the way you look too! Free radicals damage the cells in your tissue resulting in wrinkles, lines, and dehydration – showing similar effects to extensive sun exposure. Keep aging skin at bay by using a filtered shower head.      4.  Reduce your Cancer Risk! Skin Cancer is one of the more prolific cancers we deal with.   When chlorine comes in contact with organic matter, it combines with other compounds to form Trihalomethanes (THMs), otherwise known as chlorination byproducts. THMs trigger the body to produce free radicals which cause cell damage and are considered highly carcinogenic. Carcinogenic = cancer causing. The Environmental Defense Fund stated, “Although concentrations of these carcinogens (THMs) are low, it is precisely these low levels that cancer scientists believe are responsible for the majority of human cancers in the United States”. A study in Hartford Connecticut found that women with breast cancer were 50-60% more likely to have high levels of chlorination byproducts in their breast tissue than women without. Another study at Brown University found the link between chlorine levels and bladder cancer.     5.  Get Sick Less Often This may seem obvious but its often overlooked!   Not only do we have to contend with chemicals in our water but we may also have other biologic nasty’s in our water.  Mold, microorganism’s, and other bacteria can often be found in our plumbing and fixtures.   Shower filters help prevent some of those germs from getting through and, in turn, prevent you from coming down with the sniffles. A simple but affective tool for your health!
OXYGEN WATER 101

OXYGEN WATER 101

on Mar 16 2023
OXYGEN WATER 101…   Understanding Oxygen content and benefits of hyper oxygenation Living organisms need oxygen to survive.  We breathe oxygen and for species that live in water, they survive on dissolved oxygen.  Oxygen, while abundant, may not be saturated quite like you think.  Oxygen content in air and water will vary based on many factors. A fact that surprises most people is that air generally consists of approximately 21% oxygen and DO (dissolved oxygen) content in water is less than 1%.   Reference:  Ground Water Governance   How much dissolved oxygen can be found in a water supply will depend on several factors:   Aeration of water – Under pressure, relatively large quantities of oxygen are dissolved in water. When the pressure is reduced, a proportionate weight of the gas escapes (Henry’s Law*). Mineral content of water – The amount of minerals in water affects its ability to dissolve oxygen. Distilled water can absorb more oxygen than well waters with higher mineral content. Obviously, seawater, for this same reason, holds less dissolved oxygen than freshwater. Excess nutrients lead to a common problem known as an “algal bloom.” This causes an overproduction of algae, which limits sunlight reaching lower waters, and reduces dissolved oxygen. Plants cannot live without sunlight, and as a consequence, they will die. The reduction of dissolved oxygen occurs as plants die and decay at the bottom of the water. Altitude/Pressure:  Altitude: Water holds less oxygen at higher altitudes. Well waters usually contain smaller amounts of dissolved oxygen than surface supplies. In deep wells, there may be a total absence of gas. However, an article in Science Magazine, June 11, 1982, pages 1227-30, states: Contrary to the prevailing notion that oxygen-depleting reactions in the soil zone and in the aquifer rapidly reduce the dissolved oxygen content of recharge water to detection limits, 2 to 8 milligrams per liter of dissolved oxygen is present in water from a variety of deep (100 to 1000 meters) aquifers in Nevada, Arizona, and the hot springs of the folded Appalachians and Arkansas. Most of the waters sampled are several thousand to more than 10,000 years old, and some are 80 kilometers from their point of recharge.   *Henry’s Law. The English chemist, William Henry, formulated a law regarding the effect of pressure on a gas. The law states: The weight of a gas that dissolves in any given liquid is directly proportional to the pressure, providing the temperature remains constant. If one gram of oxygen, for example, dissolves in 100 cubic centimeters of water at atmospheric pressure, two grams of oxygen will dissolve under twice the normal atmospheric pressure, providing there has been no change in temperature   How do humans interfere with the amount of dissolved oxygen?   Human intervention comes in the form of dams, human waste, fertilizer, and agricultural waste. Dams slow the flow of water which reduces the amount of aeration and increases the temperature. Human waste carries a large amount of oxygen consuming bacteria. Raw sewage can spill into the waterway and introduce bacteria into the water that will use up large amounts of dissolved oxygen. Fertilizers create algae blooms and plants cannot live without sunlight. The reduction of plants causes less dissolved oxygen. Additionally, there are a number of chemicals used in industry and water processing which can remove oxygen from a water supply.  Chlorine, Chloramine, Fluoride, Sodium sulfite, and other chemicals are widely used in water treatment.  These chemicals can react with oxygen and reduce soluble oxygen. Can I add Oxygen to my water and is there a benefit?   There are several reasons adding oxygen to your water is a good thing! Oxygen saturation in water will range from ~5mg/liter up to ~14mg/liter depending on factors like chemicals, altitude, & minerals in the water.  The general saturation of oxygen in water is between 5-7mg/liter. Using a tool to aid in the addition of oxygen can help to increase the level of oxygen in the water. Benefits include: Oxygenating Water can increase the saturated oxygen from 5-7mg/liter to 10-14 mg/liter. Quicker recovery during/after exercise: Our bodies burn calories and oxygen when we exert ourselves.  High oxygen levels in water can deliver oxygen to the body and blood much faster. Supports good hydration: Drinking water daily is important for good hydration.  Higher levels of oxygen can help the body support good hydration. May speed up alcohol metabolism: Alcohol is absorbed by the small intestine and the stomach, before being metabolized by the liver. The metabolization of alcohol can’t occur without oxygen.  High Oxygen levels can aid to metabolize alcohol faster. Higher levels of oxygen in the water gives the body a higher dose of oxygen and can aid in recovery from injury/surgery when the body needs it most. Oxygen adds to the taste of water. For this reason, adding oxygen can help improve the taste of water.  Water, at times, can have a “flat” taste which often occurs after it has been standing in an open container for some time.  Reintroducing oxygen into the water will give it a more appealing taste. Several authors have reported the benefits of using oxygenated water, in the case of human health, drinking water that contained higher oxygen leads to improve oxygen availability of the body and the consumer’s health, which may improve the healing process for diabetic patients and could increase vitality and improve immune functions. A reference study in the Journal of Complementary Medicine published in 2017 discusses the benefits that functional water increases the physical performance of the human body as reported by Szalkai.  ARTICLE

What is PEMF? What are the benefits?

on Feb 21 2023
What is PEMF?  What are the benefits? At Tools for Wellness we look for therapies that help our customers LIVE SMARTER®.  PEMF therapy has been used for many years, primarily in health/clinical settings, but the last decade it’s grown in popularity due to its whole body benefits. We’ll dive into what pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMFs) are and the research about the benefits. If you have any concerns about the use of PEMF we encourage you to speak with your helth care professional.  Statements have not been evaluated by the FDA, this article is not medical advice, and it is not meant to diagnose or treat any condition.   Have you ever thought “I need a recharge!”…  then this is going to make perfect sense.  Our bodies are energy tools and need to be recharged.  We loose ‘voltage’ just like a battery and need something to aid in recharging our batteries.  It makes sense if you think about it: Our bodies use electrical pulses to function – it’s why pacemakers and heart defibrillators work. PEMF therapy is a tool that can help mimic the natural recharging mechanism by sending low-level electromagnetic pulses through our bodies to activate our natural repair processes.  The cool thing about this therapy is how it reacts with our bodies.  PEMF therapy is able to pass completely through the body and can reach cells, tissue, organs and even bone without being changed or absorbed and can offer a non-invasive way to support wellness. There are many benefits to a regular PEMF therapy sessions.  There are literally thousands of studies showing the benefits of PEMF Therapy.  Research by NASA and other bodies has found that PEMF therapy can aide and deliver benefits to include: Better circulationPain reductionImproved muscle relaxation and performanceDecreased inflammation and swellingImproved oxygenation in tissueEnhanced cellular repair and recoveryImproved immune systemBetter sleepA leading study on PEMF therapy and in conjunction with NASA was lead by Dr. Thomas Goodwin PhD.  This 4 year study found that PEMF therapy compared to other aspects such as static magnets and LED’s had the best effect in the healing and regeneration of cells etc.   Dr. Goodwins team to look closer at the frequency, intensity’s, and waveform’s associated with PEMF .  Spending over 3.5 million dollars to look close into pulsed electromagnetic fields and PEMF therapy over a 4 year period, this study was ‘Landmark’ in proving PEMF therapy works and improves the body’s health and wellbeing. ELECTROSMOG – THE STATE OF SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATIONS

on Feb 07 2023
Electrosmog has been shown in numerous studies to be harmful to humans, animals, and plants. However, the state of scientific investigations into electrosmog is in flux – as is the scientific consensus. We believe that electromagnetic frequencies do affect our health, which is why we developed our VIVOBASE Family of devices. For those interested in staying (or becoming) educated on the matter, the information platform EMF portal of the RWTH Aachen systematically compiles scientific research findings on the effects of electromagnetic fields (EMF) and makes them available in English and in German. We recommend that you keep yourself informed about electrosmog and the damage it causes, as well as any preventive measures that you can take. Additional Test results 2023BIONResearch_Gate_Publications_VIVOBASE_VIVOBASE_HOME_2023 Studies that substantiate harm of electrosmogReport of Partial findings from the National Toxicology Program Carcinogenesis Studiesof Cell Phone Radiofrequency Radiation in Hsd: Sprague Dawley ® rats Authors: Wyde ME; Cesta MF; Blystone CR; Bucher JR; Elmore SA; Foster PM,Hooth MJ, Kissling GE, Malarkey DE, Sills RC, Stout MD, Walker, NJ, Witt KL, Wolfe MSConducting the study: National Toxicology Program (NTP) within the National Institute of Health of the US Government (Sponsoring US$ 25 million)Source: http://biorxiv.org/content/early/2016/06/23/055699Date: 23 June 2016Information: n=1260 animals (rats). The animals were irradiated for up to 106 weeks with up to 900 megahertz (lower mobile radio standard). Findings: The findings of the study show that mobile phone radiation can lead to tumours. To be more precise, two types of cancer (schwannoma, glioma) and pre-cancerous cell changes (hyperplasia of glial cells) were documented in a number of rats (46 heart and brain tumours among 540 irradiated male rats; female rats = no tumours). These findings corroborate the appraisal by the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) that mobile phone radiation is potentially carcinogenic. Tumor promotion through high-frequency electromagnetic fields in combination with carcinogens Authors: Klose, M; based on the research of Tillmann and Lerchl et al (2010)Conducting the study: German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS)Source: https://doris.bfs.de/jspui/handle/urn:nbn:de:0221-2015031812720Date: March 2015Information: This study involving experiments on animals investigated whether high-frequency electromagnetic fields of the mobile radio standard UMTS (1.97 GHz) can promote the development and growth of tumours without itself causing the formation of tumours. A pilot study by Tillmann et al. (2010) reported tumour-promoting effects of high-frequency electromagnetic fields. These indications should be investigated. Findings: For the most part, the findings of the pilot study were able to be confirmed and expanded. In both studies, the number of tumours (carcinomas and adenomas) in the liver and lung have risen in the combination groups as a result of mobile phone radiation   The impact of electromagnetic fields from mobile communications on male fertilityAuthor: Pophof, B.Conducting the study: BfSSource: http://doris.bfs.de/jspui/handle/urn:nbn:de:0221-2014031911368Date: 19. March 2014 Findings: The impact of electromagnetic fields originating from mobile phones on male fertility was investigated in a number of national and international studies. Studies on humans consistently show reduced fertility in humans who regularly use a mobile phone. However, this is in all probability caused by the lifestyle of these persons, and not by electromagnetic fields. Laboratory studies predominantly show thermal effects above the limits which can be explained by the high temperature sensitivity of sperm. This type of high exposure does not occur in the day-to-day use of mobile phones. Even if a mobile phone is transmitting in a trouser pocket, the exposure of the testicles to electromagnetic fields is well below the limits and a thermal effect cannot be ruled out. The findings from tests on animals show contradictory results dependent upon the quality of the study. Studies that meet the qualitative requirements of good scientific practice do not demonstrate that electromagnetic fields have any health-related impact of on fertility. As many of the observations described have not been clarified conclusively, WHO recommends more research in this area in its Research Agenda 2010. STUDIES ON VIVOBASE PRODUCTSFind scientific evidence from VIVOBASE in collaboration with the accredited BION Institute which substantiates the functionality and operation of VIVOBASE devices. The BION Institute is certified as an official research center in accordance with SICRIS (Slovenian Current Research Information System) under registration number 53760410000. Studies carried out in cooperation with the BION Institute have shown that the parameters of body temperature, skin resistance, muscle activity and respiratory rate are optimised significantly when the VIVOBASE FAMILY is used. This has positive implications for the metabolism, inner equilibrium and oxygen capacity. The devices have less significant impacts on the body parameters of pulse and depth of breathing. The studies are structured as followed in accordance with recognised scientific standards: Prospective test set-up (criteria to determine the mode of action were determined in the run-up to the study), placebo exempt (during the course of the study, none of the test subjects knew whether the VIVOBASE devices were switched on or off), double blind (during the course of the study neither test subjects nor assistants knew whether the VIVOBASE devices were switched on or off), and the principle of random selection (relevant criteria, such as age, gender, test time, etc. were distributed more or less equally in both test groups, meaning with VIVOBASE devices either switched on or off). TEST REPORT 1 – ENERGY INFLUENCE OF THE VBH ON THE HUMAN ORGANISMStudy: Test report for energy influence on human organism for the product VBHDate: 2. November to 11. November 2016Test subjects: 10 test subjects ranging from 25 to 55 years of age (7 women and 3 men)Objective: To determine the impact of the VIVOBASE HOME on physiological body parameters, e.g. skin resistance, pulse, muscle activity, respiratory rate, body temperature). Test set-up: The test subjects were kept in a separate room in which the measuring equipment for determining the physiological parameters and a computer were located. In order to eliminate external influences, the test subjects were alone in the room during the test. The physiological parameters of the test subjects were measured continuously for approx. 30 minutes. The VIVOBASE HOME was located in an adjacent room – and was switched on and off by a third person – at a linear distance of approx. 5 metres from the test subject. Findings: The most significant findings were the effects of VIVOBASE HOME on the skin resistance, respiratory rate and body temperature. The “perfect” skin resistance was achieved more quickly when the VIVOBASE HOME was switched on. This means that the test subjects were more “relaxed”, that is, less stressed. Moreover, body temperature was also found to improve by switching on the VIVOBASE HOME. In combination with the improved skin resistance, this results in improved metabolism in the test subjects. Furthermore, an improved respiratory rate was documented in the test subjects when the VIVOBASE HOME was switched on. TEST REPORT 2 – PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF THE VBH WITH REGARD TO WIFI ROUTERSStudy: Test report for protective influence on human organism against Wireless Router Radiation for the product VBHDate: 24. October to 4. November 2016Test subjects: 10 test subjects ranging from 25 to 70 years of age (7 women and 3 men)Objective: To determine the effect of VIVOBASE HOME on electromagnetic radiation (WIFI) by means of changes to physiological body parameters, such as skin resistance, pulse, muscle activity, respiratory rate, body temperature. Test set-up: 4 different test combinations were carried out in total (Wi-Fi on and VBH on; Wi-Fi on and VBH off; Wi-Fi off and VBH on; Wi-Fi off and VBH off). These four combinations were carried out on four different days. The test subjects were kept in a separate room in which the measuring equipment for determining the physiological parameters and a computer were located. In order to eliminate external influences, the test subjects were alone in the room during the test. The physiological parameters of the test subjects were measured continuously for approx. 30 minutes. The VIVOBASE HOME was located in an adjacent room (switched on and off by a third person) at a linear distance of approx. 5 metres from the test subject. The WIFI router was placed at a distance of 1 metre from the test subject (concealed). Findings: The most significant finding was the protective effect of the VIVOBASE HOME with regard to the positive changes to the physiological parameters. In terms of skin resistance, a “calmer physical state” was able to be measured when VIVOBASE HOME was switched on. In terms of the respiratory rate, “less stress or strain” was able to be measured when VIVOBASE HOME was switched on. In terms of breathing, it was able to be measured that test subjects breathed with fuller lungs, and as a consequence increased oxygen capacity when the VIVOBASE HOME was switched on. In terms of the body temperature, a “better metabolism“ was induced when the VIVOBASE HOME was switched on. It took several minutes for the parameters pulse and depth of respiration to change. In summary, all parameters improved on average by 62.5% as soon as the VIVOBASE HOME was switched on. TEST REPORT 3 – PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF THE VBH WITH RESPECT TO DECT RADIATIONStudy: Test report for protective influence on human organism against DECT Radiation for the product VBHDate: 2. November 11. November 2016Test subjects: 10 test subjects ranging from 25 to 55 years of age (7 women and 3 men)Objective: To determine the effect of VBH on electromagnetic radiation by means of changes to physiological body parameters, such as skin resistance, pulse, muscle activity, respiratory rate, body temperature. Test set-up: Two different test combinations where carried out in total (DECT on and VBH on; DECT on and VBH off). These two combinations were carried out on two different days. The test subjects were kept in a separate room in which the measuring equipment for determining the physiological parameters and a computer were located. In order to eliminate external influences, the test subjects were alone in the room during the test. The physiological parameters of the test subjects were measured continuously for approx. 30 minutes. The VIVOBASE HOME was located in an adjacent room – and was switched on and off by a third person – at a linear distance of approx. 5 metres from the test subject. The two tests were divided into three sections: Preparation: Test structure and measurement of body parameters before the test (2 minutes in total)Using the telephone: The test subjects made a phone call for a total of 5 minutes using a DECT telephone held to their ear.Sitting: The DECT telephone was placed at a distance of 5-10 centimetres from the head of the test subject. The test subjects did not make a phone call during this time (18 minutes). The telephone was in standby mode.Findings: The most significant finding was the protective effect of the VIVOBASE HOME with regard to the positive changes to the physiological parameters muscle activity. If the VIVOBASE HOME was switched on, the BION Institute was able to determine that the test subjects had more energy and strength and that, with respect to body temperature, their metabolism improved. It took several minutes for the parameter pulse to change. On average all parameters improved by 31.3% as soon as the VIVOBASE HOME was switched on. TEST REPORT 4 – INFLUENCE ON THE MOLECULAR STRUCTURE OF WATER WITH REGARD TO THE VBHStudy: Test report of subtle influence on dynamic water structure for the product VBH Objective: Determining the physico-chemical effect of the VIVOBASE HOME on electromagnetic radiation with the aid of the BionEvapo ® study. BionEvapo® Study: A standardised, scientific study for determining changes in the structure of water caused by external influences. To this end, water drops are exposed to various external influences and observed under a microscope. After the water molecules have evaporated, the remaining minerals are analysed. Test set-up: The water molecules were investigated under the influence of mobile phone radiation (switched on and switched off) when the VIVOBASE HOME was switched on and when it was switched off. To do this, two glass beakers were filled with water. 14–16 water drops from each beaker were placed under a microscope (Evapo-Test T0). One beaker was then left in the laboratory and the other beaker was placed in a separate room in which the VIVOBASE HOME (switched on) and a mobile phone were located. During the test, the mobile phone was switched on and off and connected to a WIFI router. The water beaker was then brought back into the laboratory and the water drops were analysed again (Evapo-Test T1). This test was carried out twice on two different days. Guide to Functional Mushrooms, Adaptogens, and Their Benefits

on Jan 19 2023
Functional fungiFunctional mushrooms have recently made a name for themselves as the newest health food. Wellness influencers, athletes and foragers alike are adding buzz to the trend. Still, in the wake of the hype, there is confusion. Sure, loads of people tout the healing effects of these mushrooms, but many of us are left scratching our heads at what these fungi do for us and how. Good news, these mushrooms aren’t hearsay, they are rooted in science and there is still much to be discovered.  With what we know right now about the amazing world of mycelium, we’ve put together the ultimate guide to functional mushrooms. Whether you are a pro athlete or just looking to get healthier, we’ve got you covered. Read on to learn all about the wonderful world of functional mushrooms. New trend, old history In 2020, there was a big push for physical and mental wellness. With this, we saw a massive spike in natural medicine. People started to look to nature to promote health. This concept is hardly a new one. Humans have used plants, mushrooms and countless other natural resources for healing for thousands of years. Cultures and civilizations from the Aztecs to the Egyptians have been harnessing the power of mushrooms. It of course makes sense. Today, mushrooms are widely known to be a reliable source of protein and vitamins D and B. Recent studies have shifted to exploring how mushrooms can be utilized in antibiotics, antivirals, and antidepressants.  With thousands of years of research and human history to draw upon, it is no wonder that mushrooms are making a comeback in modern day. What are functional mushrooms? When we talk about functional mushrooms, we don’t mean the white capped ones you find in the supermarket. Furthermore, we aren’t talking about anything psychedelic or mind altering. We mean, those rare and sometimes funny looking ones that only grow in deep forests or high cliffs. These mushrooms are supercharged with nutritional value and loads of health benefits. These can be anything from lowered stress levels, clearer skin, gut health, anti-inflammatory properties, and so many more. What you should look for in functional mushrooms While the benefits of consuming functional mushrooms are clear, it is important to remember that not all products are created equal. There are a few things you need to look out for when choosing which function mushroom product is right for you. Jake Plummer Growing MushroomsSourcing A company’s sourcing method is vital to how effective the mushroom will be. Be on the lookout for products that are made with whole fruiting bodies. These are spore producing structures that support the asexual reproduction of the plant. It is also important that the mushrooms are extracted raw or whole to make sure you get all the good benefits when consumed. Testing Testing details are important in quality assurance so that you are purchasing a product that is the best of the best. Functional mushroom products should be tested for heavy metals, bad bacteria, mycotoxins, yeasts, molds, and pesticides. Harnessing the power of functional mushroomsSure, functional mushrooms look like a glamorous health product from afar, but the benefits of the mushrooms are rooted in science.  Out of the currently recognized 2,000 species of mushrooms considered to be medicinal or edible, only 15 are recognized as functional. This list is comprised of adaptogenic and medicinal mushrooms. An adaptogen is a substance that helps to reduce the negative effects of stress on the body. On the other hand, medical mushrooms are known to have related physiological effects. These can be anything from healthy digestion, to improved cardiac performance. It is important to note that adaptogenic and medicinal are not the same thing. Mushrooms in either category work differently in the body. Adaptogenic mushrooms Taking a more in-depth look at adaptogens means looking at how stress takes form in the body. The body’s stress response is remarkably complex and involves multiple bodily systems. However, our main stress mechanism is the Hypothalamic Pituitary Adrenal (HPA axis). Our HPA’s job is to release glucocorticoids like cortisol (a primary stress hormone) to activate our stress response. Adaptogens primarily work by influencing our HPA axis. In doing so, adaptogens increase our resistance to stress, boost recovery and create stability in the body. Researchers have discovered that certain plants and some mushrooms, have adaptogenic properties. Types of adaptogenic mushroomsLet’s face it, most of us would consider lowered stress levels to be a dream come true. Still, in order to get there, it is important to know which mushrooms are adaptogenic and which are medicinal. Below is a list of the most common adaptogenic mushrooms and their benefits for stress and beyond. Reishi Functional Mushroom - UMBO MushroomsReishi Benefits: immune support, relieving stress and anxiety, improved sleep. Known as one of the most common adaptogenic mushrooms, Reishi is used for its benefits to overall health. It works to boost the immune system by stimulating it to prevent infections. On top of this, the triterpenes and beta-glucans found in the functional mushroom may help reduce cholesterol. Lastly, Reishi relieves stress and anxiety, and can help you get deeper sleep. Chaga Benefits: immune health, lower inflammation, reduced blood sugar and blood pressure, alleviating arthritis, stress relief. Chaga is effective for reducing inflammation and defends against free radicals by regulating the immune system. According to research, Chaga can also lower blood sugar, blood pressure, and aid arthritis symptoms. Currently, Umbo isn’t using Chaga until we are better educated on the sustainability and complicated extraction methods required to make Chaga truly bioavailable. Cordycep Functional Mushroom - UMBO MushroomsCordyceps Benefits: energy boost, increased stamina, immune health. With what we know at present, cordyceps are great for athletes, no matter what level. This adaptogenic mushroom supports your adrenal glands and helps your body maintain consistent energy levels. Cordyceps give your body a boost by increasing the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which in turn increases cellular oxygen absorption. This means that it can improve the flow of oxygen throughout the body, which makes it great for exercise. Lions Mane Functional Mushroom - UMBO MushroomsLions maneBenefits: cognitive health, lower anxiety and depressive symptoms. Based on current research, Lion’s mane is known to improve immune function and have been beneficial in treating anxiety and depression. The adaptogenic mushroom benefits also extend to cognitive health. Research shows that compounds found in lion’s mane are known to stimulate the production of NGF (Nerve Growth Factor). This is a bioprotein that plays a critical role in the maintenance, health, and regeneration of neurons in the brain. When NGF amounts are low,  it is usually associated with Alzheimer’s and other degenerative brain diseases. Lion’s mane helps boost memory, improve creativity, and strengthen concentration. Turkey tail functional mushroom - UMBO MushroomsTurkey tailBenefits: immune support, cellular regeneration, digestive functioning. Turkey tail’s super power is immune boosting. The functional mushroom contains powerful antiviral and antimicrobial properties. This makes it incredibly effective at treating the common cold or flu. Turkey tail is also packed with antioxidants which can help reduce damage caused by oxidative stress. The mushroom also has loads of prebiotics that offer healthy gut benefits and can improve your microbiome. Shiitake Functional Mushroom - UMBO MushroomsShiitake Benefits: immune health, antioxidants, heart, and liver health. Shiitake mushrooms are packed with vitamins B, D and zinc. The functional mushroom contains three main compounds that can lower cholesterol: eritadenine, sterols, and beta-glucans. The improved effect on immune function from shiitake can be attributed to its powerful polysaccharides. Therasage Infrared and Inflammation

on Jan 06 2023
Its been long proven that inflammation is the enemy of the human body and for that matter any living being.  Inflammation can attack joints, tendons, muscles, and other parts of the body preventing rapid healing and with long bouts of inflammation, it can cause long term damage to the body. Free Radicals and Chronic Inflammation Concerns voiced by critics of excessive inflammation caused by injury or exercise may harm overall health, resulting in joint degeneration, accelerated free radical production, and increased inflammation. Free radicals, or oxidants, essentially cause the body to “rust” on the inside. Inflammation, meanwhile, is a natural healing response to some form of irritant. It becomes a problem when it continues over a prolonged period of time, hence the expression “chronic inflammation.” If oxidation is biological “rust,” then chronic inflammation is an internal “brush fire.” And, in many of us, it’s burning out of control. Chronic Inflammation and the Heart You may be asking yourself, “What does all this talk about oxidants and chronic inflammation have to do with coronary health?” Prominent cardiologist Dr. Stephen T. Sinatra, MD has a very short answer to that question: “Inflammation is the primary cause of heart disease—plus it’s been linked to a number of autoimmune conditions and long-term degenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s, diabetes, cancer, and arthritis.” According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), heart disease itself is the primary cause of death among both men and women in the United States, so much so that it accounts for 1 in 4 of all deaths annually. And, according to Dr. Sinatra, chronic inflammation is its primary cause. Two Ways of Fighting Chronic Inflammation So, what can we do to extinguish, or at least bring under control, the fires of chronic inflammation? Firstly, we can follow an anti-inflammatory diet. In his blog post, “The Best Ways to Detox in a Toxic World,”  Dr. Sinatra explains how eating the right foods – and avoiding the wrong ones – can greatly aid the process of detoxification. And, since a toxic body is generally an inflamed one as well, a detoxifying diet will almost always end up being an anti-inflammatory one. An anti-inflammatory diet generally has three macronutrient features: Low-glycemic carbohydrates Lean proteins Healthy fats The second anti-inflammatory health hack is infrared therapy. This helps reduce both inflammation and oxidative stress. As Dr. Sinatra teaches in the same post referenced above: “Sweating, in general, is an excellent detoxing technique. For this reason, regular use of a sauna is a wonderful way to sweat out toxins we accumulate on a daily basis. I especially like far-infrared (FIR) saunas: while conventional saunas heat the air around our bodies, FIR saunas directly penetrate our bodies with infrared heat, a beneficial type of electromagnetic radiation. FIR heat is much more efficiently and directly absorbed, and may also improve circulation. With both exercise and sauna use, remember to drink plenty of filtered water before, during, and after to mobilize toxins and prevent dehydration.” What Dr. Sinatra says about far-infrared is even more true of full spectrum infrared, which is the technology used in our Therasage saunas and heating pads. We believe that the most efficient way of harnessing the natural power of the sun is by imitating it, which means providing the myriad of benefits from the entire infrared spectrum!!     Fighting Fire with Fire As the Free Medical Dictionary explains, “The inflammatory response can be provoked by physical, chemical, and biologic agents, including (. . .), or by infectious agents such as bacteria, viruses, and other pathogenic microorganisms.” So, it only stands to reason that, as toxins leave the body, inflammation likewise decreases. We know this seems paradoxical: how do you put out a fire (chronic inflammation) with heat (infrared therapy)? Well, the short answer is that infrared therapy is one of the best ways for the body to detox, and a lower toxic burden results in reduced chronic inflammation. Yes: heat properly applied can put out some kinds of fire! So, let’s commit to eating healthier and sweating out those toxins!

Benefits of Far Infrared Sauna Therapy

on Nov 22 2022
Saunas are believed to originate in northern Europe around 2000 BC. The use of saunas has been an important part of cultural life globally from early adopters like Russia, Latvia, and Finland and now they’re used worldwide. An Interesting fact in Finland…  With a population of just over 5 million, Finland ranks among the top countries per capita with an amazing 3 million saunas in use. Traditionally, saunas were huts or rooms warmed by fire and sterilized by smoke.  Over time the use developed by adding heated rocks and water to create steam and increase the release of sweat.  This was thought to offer spiritual and detoxification benefits. In recent decades the use of Far Infrared Saunas has become a popular tool that studies have shown tremendous benefits! The science of Far Infrared Saunas has shown excellent benefits.  Even if you just listen to your body, it’s hard not to sit in a sauna and feel great after!  The sense of sweating impurities and detoxing the body is easy to accept.  But what are the other benefits? Cardiovascular Benefits: Studies show that the long term, regular sauna is associated with a significantly lower risk of death from heart disease.  A study done by the Mayo Clinic titled “Cardiovascular and Other Health Benefits of Sauna Bathing”, the research notes a substantial decrease in systolic blood pressure and with regular use, the benefit remained a constant.   Studies have shown with long term use of regular sauna users (at least four times a week) after a median time of 20 years, compared to a control group who did not use a sauna regularly, the sauna users had half the incidence of sudden cardiac death, 43% lower incidence of fatal coronary heart disease, and 39% lower all-cause mortality. Far Infrared Saunas can help improve cardiovascular conditioning and can aid in heart and lung disease.   Use of Far Infrared in studies of patients with heart disease showed improved stress test performance and increased treadmill exercise time after a study period of far infrared sauna use.  “Repeated sauna treatment improves vascular endothelial and cardiac function in patients with chronic heart failure. J Am Coll Cardiol”. Fitness and Soothing Sore Muscles: The Use of Far Infrared Saunas improve blood circulation in the body.  By driving blood flow an infrared sauna session can help speed up muscle recovery following physical activity. With improved recovery the body is better prepared to take on the vigor of exercise and can act as a preventative for injury.   This can also increase the body’s metabolism and assist in ridding the body of toxins that promote obesity, which in turn promotes weight loss.   Decreased Inflammation and Pain: It is well documented that disease is either caused by, or worsened by, inflammation.  Far infrared sauna use has been shown as an excellent tool to reduce pain and inflammation.  Anti-inflammatory benefits can improve the symptoms of virtually every chronic disease.   Specifically, these can include autoimmune diseases, arthritis, and fibromyalgia.  A study “The effects of repeated thermal therapy for patients with chronic pain” shows significant improvement with far infrared sauna use.    Detoxification, Body & Mind Health: Probably the best known and accepted benefit of Far Infrared Saunas is the benefit of Detoxification.  In our modern world we’re exposed to hundreds of chemicals and toxins on a daily basis.  In virtually everyone, a toxicity blood test will reveal a multitude of toxins.  These toxins can cause cellular and DNA damage.  This can include damage to the nervous system, brain, increase your risk of dementia, disrupt the endocrine system, and cause altered metabolism and obesity.   The use of Far Infrared Saunas helps to remove toxins by excretion of sweat.  With the increase in Electromagnetic Radiation (EMF) in our modern times, we’re targeted just about every we live. Heat therapy, and sauna use, has been shown to boost the immune system and increase our resistance to infections.  The use of Far Infrared Saunas can help detox the body and lead to better energy, weight loss, mind clarity, and overall cognitive and body health. There are soo many other benefits!  Studies show benefits to include Skin Health, Improved Allergy resistance, lower risk of Diabetes, Increased Antioxidants, Immune System boost and more!   Its hard not to feel good when you use a Far Infrared Sauna!   At Tools for Wellness www.toolsforwellness.com we look for ways to help people Live Smarter!  We offer a great selection of Far Infrared Saunas.  If you’re not sure what might work best for you, reach out to us.  We’re here to help!

The Healing Powers of Tuning Forks

on Nov 08 2022
Sound healing with the use of tuning forks is a powerful yet gentle method of treating an individual’s mind, body, and soul, helping to restore inner balance and health. The sound frequencies created by tuning forks interact with the nervous system, tissues, and the subtle energies of the body, creating a relaxing effect with several possible benefits. Tools for Wellness offers several tuning forks for use in sound therapy, chakra tuning, and psychic tuning! How Tuning Forks Work in Sound Healing Each tuning fork vibrates at a set frequency, ranging from 64 Hz to 4,096 Hz, after being struck with the heel of your hand. Many of these sound frequencies are used in sound healing, and some individuals report relief from many common symptoms, including chronic stress and pain, tiredness, headaches and migraines, insomnia, joint pain, and more. In addition to these possible physical healing benefits, tuning forks are also commonly utilized in alternative healing modalities, including yoga, meditation, and sound massage. These precise frequencies of sounds may interact with the subtle structures of our bodies, assisting in the shifting of stuck, stagnant energies. The Benefits of Healing Tuning Forks Different tuning fork frequencies for healing may provide several benefits — these may include a tuning fork’s ability to tune the human body’s natural cycle and circadian rhythm while stimulating homeostasis, bringing bodies to a natural state of balance. These vibrations may also help on the cellular level, promoting the activation of Qi, helping life force energy flow, free from blockages.  Tuning Forks and the Human Body Sound is able to travel through water at a rate of up to four times faster than through air. When you consider that the human body is largely made up of water, it follows that we are excellent receptors of sound resonances. The finely tuned sounds created by tuning forks create vibratory motion, which in turn resonates throughout the body. These vibrating, resonant frequencies may help the body’s fluids and tissues relax and decongest, bringing them back into proper balance.  Additional Benefits of Tuning Forks For Healing Therapy The frequencies created by tuning forks may stimulate the flow of lymph and blood around the areas of application, speeding up the body’s healing processes.  When tuning forks are applied to scar tissue, the tissue may exhibit more mobility, softening and loosening. The sound created by tuning forks may help promote a state of deep relaxation, helping those who struggle with anxiety, headaches, stress, and emotional imbalances.  Tools for Wellness offers several different tuning fork sets and accessories for use in sound and psychic healing. Does Energy Healing Really Work?

Does Energy Healing Really Work?

on Nov 03 2022
Does Energy Healing Really Work?By Jancee Dunn    Updated on July 5, 2022  Medically reviewed by Arno Kroner, DAOM, LAc The field of energy healing has been around for centuries in Eastern cultures and is becoming more mainstream on this side of the globe too. There’s also a lot of confusion around it. What is it, exactly? Are there credible studies on it? And isn’t it just a little bit…woo-woo? Let’s start with its definition. According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), the government’s lead agency for research on non-conventional medicine, energy medicine (or biofield therapies) is the act of channeling and manipulating the energy that courses through your body in order to heal it. This can reportedly be done with hands-on practices, such as acupuncture and Reiki, as well as sensory-based experiences, like the use of crystals, sound baths, and aromatherapy. While some of this might sound too “out there” for you, some of it does have some credibility. The Medical Theory Energy practitioners believe that your body is instilled with a subtle energy—or animating life force—the flow of which must be balanced for good health. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this force is called qi (pronounced “chee”). Johns Hopkins Medicine also states that in Ayurvedic medicine, which originated in India, this energy is represented in the doshas—three energies (vata, pitta, and kapha) that provide every person’s makeup. The basis of energy medicine is removing blocks in your body’s energetic field that can cause poor health. Energy medicine has been around for thousands of years. But even with its long history, people find it hard to wrap their heads around energy medicine, said licensed acupuncturist, clinical herbalist, and doctor of Chinese medicine Jill Blakeway, author of the book “Energy Medicine: The Science and Mystery of Healing.” This is not helped by the fact that this field is, as Blakeway said bluntly, “rife with quackery.” Anyone can basically call themselves an energy healer, said Blakeway, a funny, forthcoming Brit who works with MDs and is the opposite of woo-woo. “While practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine are licensed and do either a four-year masters or a five-year doctorate, there are no minimum standards for most other types of energy work.” Yufang Lin, MD, an integrative medicine physician at the Cleveland Clinic who is trained in Reiki and qigong, explains to her patients that energy is the foundation for everything we do with our bodies. “The idea is that we have this bank of energy, and we have to restore it or replace it,” said Dr. Lin. “In Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, if the energy isn’t flowing well, we get sick.” We’ve all picked up on other people’s energy when we say that a person has good vibes or negative energy. “You can absolutely feel it,” said Judith Orloff, MD, an energy healer from Santa Monica, California, and a psychiatrist on the UCLA clinical faculty. Most of us have experienced what Dr. Orloff called an energy hangover: “That’s when the energy of an interaction or an event lingers the next day when you wake up,” said Dr. Orloff, “and it literally feels like a hangover.” Gathering Evidence These days, it seems like everyone in the wellness world is heading into the mystic. But it’s not just trendy celebrity spirit warriors who have energy healers on speed dial—some of the country’s best hospitals are hiring them too. The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center offers acupuncture to its patients; Duke University Health System has acupuncture, yoga therapy, and massage therapy on their menu of services; and Mayo Clinic’s campus in Rochester, Minnesota, offers Reiki. UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Health offers a line-up of classes and medical staff who specialize in energy healing areas, including Ayurveda, TCM, and acupuncture. And New York-Presbyterian provides aromatherapy for stress reduction along with various mind-body techniques like meditation and breathing exercises. Some forms of energy medicine are backed by research. Acupuncture—skillfully placing very thin needles in specific spots on the body—is supported by solid studies on a number of health issues. For example, a 2022 review of the literature published in the journal Medical Acupuncture suggests that acupuncture is a safe adjunct to other treatments to help reduce pain and disability in people with low back pain. And despite acupuncture involving needles, it tends to elicit a relaxation response. Blakeway’s patients sometimes ask her, “What do you put in the needles?” They become so calm during her sessions, that they assume she’s coated her needles with a sedative. Reiki—a technique that involves a practitioner placing their hands either just above your body or lightly touching it—has also been shown to be an effective pain-reducer, according to a 2018 review of the literature published in the journal Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice. And a 2017 review published in the Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine showed that when compared to a placebo, Reiki was more effective at reducing anxiety and depression and improving self-esteem and overall quality of life. According to 2019 research published in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, energy healing, like Reiki, may also help people reduce their stress and increase feelings of relaxation and wellbeing. This is important because according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), stress is a culprit in many conditions, including nightmares and sleeping problems, worsening physical and mental conditions, body pain, skin rashes, stomach problems, and increased use of alcohol and other drugs. Yet, for many energy therapies, scientific evidence is still lagging. One reason is that large, carefully controlled medical studies are costly—and often funded by big companies that develop drugs. “With something like Reiki…there’s nothing to sell,” said Dr. Lin. But as demand grows, more studies are being commissioned as more leading organizations are jumping on board. For example, the NCCIH states that one of its top research priorities is “nonpharmacologic management of pain.” nonpharmacologic management of pain The Power of Belief Of course, it’s entirely possible that some of the healing benefits patients report arise from the so-called placebo effect—in which the brain convinces the body that a particular treatment will work, and then it actually does. According to the NCCIH, “the placebo effect is a beneficial health outcome resulting from a person’s anticipation that an intervention will help.” For example, the placebo effect may result in less pain or fatigue. How the effect works exactly is still a mystery, but according to 2020 research published in The Lancet, it may involve a burst of feel-good neurotransmitters like dopamine and endorphins. And a 2021 study in the journal Nature suggests that many areas of the brain are involved in placebo-mediated pain control. Even Blakeway admits that energy healing likely contains an element of placebo—so if you believe it will work, it’s more likely to work. But as she points out, if it’s functioning as part of the healing process, why fear it? Dr. Lin said that when she was in med school, she was taught a simple formula: Identify a disease by listening to the symptoms, then treat it with drugs. Now that she has moved into energy healing, the first question she tries to answer is: What is triggering the illness? “Then we try and remove that trigger,” said Dr. Lin. Energy healing requires you to listen carefully to what your body is telling you, added Dr. Orloff. “That’s really the beauty of it. It’s about tapping into your own intuition and ability to heal.” Therapies With Some Cred All kinds of approaches get thrown into the energy bucket—from color therapy to intuitive healing—but these five have gained the most traction. Therapies With Some Cred Acupuncture The research is probably most robust around acupuncture, which has been used for more than two millennia in TCM. The practice involves inserting thin needles at specific points to improve the overall movement of qi through the body. It’s believed that there are energy networks—called meridians—through which qi travels. Most meridians correspond to a major organ—like the lungs or the stomach—and most acupuncture points lie on those meridians. Many Western doctors now believe that stimulation from the needles may boost endorphins, aka your body’s natural painkillers. In a 2022 review published in the American Journal of Translational Research, study authors state that evidence suggests acupuncture alleviates acute pain in conditions like labor pain, post-op pain, tension headaches and migraines, and even period cramps. These same researchers found that acupuncture is also helpful for chronic pain associated with the low back, shoulders, and neck, as well as osteoarthritis in the knee. Acupuncture is a holistic approach, said Debbie Lamadrid, an acupuncturist at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. “The goal in Chinese medicine is to address the entire person, not just their symptoms.” Qigong According to the NCCIH, qigong is a part of TCM and has been around for thousands of years. A 2020 review of the literature published in the journal Complementary Therapies in Medicine states that qigong is a sort of umbrella term for a variety of TCM-related energy exercises. For example, tai chi is a form of qigong. Both tai chi and dynamic qigong involve slow, meditative movements, focused attention and controlled breathing. Passive qigong involves meditative breathing and mind exercises that can be done in any position and requires little to no movement. Research is slowly mounting to support the benefits of qigong. That same 2020 literature review in Complementary Therapies in Medicine looked at 886 studies that involved qigong and various health conditions and found that 96.5% of them reported positive results with qigong. The health conditions included diabetes, fibromyalgia, depression, cancer, anxiety, arthritis, blood pressure…and the list goes on. Reflexology According to the National Institutes of Health‘s (NIH) National Cancer Institute, the Chinese meridian theory states that there are channels—or meridians—that form a network inside your body and that points on your feet, hands, and ears are connected with other parts of your body. For example, TCM believes that certain toes reflect your head and that specific points on the palms of your hands are linked to your kidneys. The belief is that when points within those energy centers are stimulated, they can improve energy circulation and rejuvenate corresponding areas elsewhere in the body. So reflexology is simply massaging or pressing on certain points on your hands, feet, or ears that correspond to the areas in which you’re having trouble. Research on reflexology is sparse, but a 2020 study published in the journal Surgical Laparoscopy, Endoscopy & Percutaneous Techniques found that both foot and hand massage decreased people’s post-op pain and anxiety levels. And in a 2021 review of the literature published in the Journal of Advanced Nursing, researchers found that foot reflexology seems to significantly improve sleep.   Reiki In the practice of Reiki, practitioners put their hands on or right above your body (which in most cases is fully clothed) in order to direct energy. The name is formed from the Japanese words Rei (spirit) and Ki (vital energy). Vickie Bodner, a licensed massage therapist and Reiki master in Cleveland, Ohio, said that patients often come to her for physical and emotional pain, such as fibromyalgia, immune system issues, or depression. As mentioned earlier, it’s also good for stress relief. And while the NCCIH states that research on Reiki is mixed, “Patients find it comforting, calming, and soothing,” said Bodner. While research is mixed on certain energy healing therapies, teaching your nervous system to relax and learning to manage your stress is something everyone should master—whether it’s with or without one of these therapies.

Understanding Mobile Phone Safety and Cell Phone Radiation

on Oct 20 2022
Mobile phone usage is simply a part of our everyday life and culture.   We use our smartphones 24 hours a day…  It’s our alarm clock when we wake up, our social media outlet, we shop our favorite stores, conduct business and communication, and use it for entertainment.  Our Mobile phones sit next to us almost all the time. Smartphone manufacturers race to outdo each other each year. They roll out new designs and specifications to lure users to upgrade and avail their products. Innovation after innovation changed the game of the industry. However, no matter how advanced smartphones are, one thing does not change: the high levels of radiofrequency energy they emit. This radiofrequency energy is a type of non-ionizing radiation that can be absorbed by our tissues when our body is in close proximity with handheld devices such as smartphones. UNDERSTANDING CELL PHONE RADIATIONVarying factors influence the amount of radiofrequency energy a mobile phone user is exposed to. These include (a) technology of the phone; (b) distance between the phone and its user; (c) distance between users and cell phone towers; and (d) reception of the device. Nonetheless, we are surrounded by electromagnetic radiation every day: your visible light, X-rays, microwaves, and ultraviolet light. It is the high-frequency, short wavelength radiation, such as X-rays or gamma rays, that can tinker DNA and are linked to cancer. These are small waves that carry enough energy to knock electrons off atoms; thereby, ionizing them. Mobile phones use radio waves to communicate with cell towers. Radio waves have longer wavelengths which means they are not totally capable of causing the break of chemical bonds and the ionization in the human body. However, it is not conclusive whether cell phone radiation is safe for humans. The International Agency for Research on Cancer characterizes electromagnetic fields produced by mobile phones as possibly carcinogenic to humans. Moreover, The Journal of Radiology Nursing claims that while exposure to radiation is unlikely to cause cancer, prolonged exposure increases the risk of developing cancer over time. Alasdair Philips, a scientist from the United Kingdom, also warned that while modern cell phones emit less frequency, they are still hazardous especially in areas where the reception is poor. He added, “You should download material, rather than stream it, since streaming emits more radiation. And you should not use ear buds, since these fit deeply inside the ear.” modern cell phones emit less frequency RESEARCHES ON CELL PHONE RADIATIONThere have been a multitude of epidemiologic studies that aim to establish the connection between cell phone usage and malignant and benign tumors. The World Health Organization (WHO) weighs in on the issue. WHO established the International Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) Project in 1996 which scrutinized the adverse health effects from electromagnetic fields. In 2010, the “Interphone Study” was initiated and found an 80% increase in brain tumors among heavy cell phone users. Subsequently, in 2011, a specialized WHO agency — the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) — reviewed the carcinogenic potential of radiofrequency fields. To the surprise of many, WHO classified radiofrequency from cell phones as “possibly carcinogenic,” an outlier in scientific research on the health impacts of electromagnetic radiation (EMF). In July 2019, the Times published “5G, Don’t Fear the Frequency” in which journalist William Broad quoted David Robert Grimes’ assertion, “If phones are linked to cancer, we’d expect to see a marked uptick. Yet we do not.” However, this is inconsistent with the data from the U.K. Cancer Registry which recorded an increase in aggressive brain tumors as researched by Philips. The National Institutes of Health through the National Toxicology Program (NTP) and the European investigators at the Ramazzini Institute in Italy tested 3,000 and 2,500 rats respectively. The process involves administering a dose of radiation in rats and mice of both sexes with the prescribed limit by the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) for public exposure from cell phones. The experiment was conducted for nine hours a day in a span of two years. As the animals grew, so did the doses received by the animals. The study found that radiofrequency radiation exposure has biological effects relevant to carcinogenesis. This was affirmed by Jon Samet, the dean of the Colorado School of Public Health. The researchers reported heart schwannomas in male rats and carcinogens in lymph nodes, prostate, skin, lung, liver, and brain of exposed rats and mice. The Food and Drug Administration and FCC dismissed the findings based on the alleged high doses of radiation that NTP exposed the animals. However, this was negated by Ramazzini Institute as they only exposed the rats that developed heart cancers to lower doses of radiation. Interestingly, when Henry Lai, a University of Washington bioengineering researcher, reviewed 326 radio-frequency radiation studies published between 1990 to 2005, he found out that among the independently funded studies, 70% reported finding harmful effects while only 30% reported the same among the studies funded by industry.   Other Health Risks A wide range of health effects have been associated with cell phone use. Blood–Brain Barrier (BBB)A study in 2009 found an increase in BBB permeability in the mammalian brain one week after exposure to the radiation from Global System for Mobile Telecommunication (GSM) 900 mobile phones. GSM is a digital network which operates at either 900 MHz or 1,800 MHz. Male fertilityThe jury is still out as to the effect of radiofrequency radiation to the reproductive system. However, it must be noted that sperm quality has been declining over the past decades. Related: Radiation and Male Fertility  Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS)There have been numerous reports of non-specific symptoms during and after use of mobile phones. While EHS is not a medical condition, it is prevalent. Glucose metabolismStudies are ongoing to establish the connection between brain glucose metabolism and radiofrequency. Previous researches have illustrated contrasting results. Effects On Children The effects of mobile phone radiation to children is of particular concern since their nervous systems are yet to fully develop. Additionally, it goes without saying that children will grow up in a heavily digitalized world where every corner has a cell tower and cell phones are a necessity. This makes them vulnerable to even small amounts of radiofrequency radiation caused by cell phones. RELATED: INCREASED SCREEN TIME FOR CHILDREN  GOVERNMENT REGULATIONSThe limitations to radiofrequency exposure were penned by FCC. However, many cell phone brands have exceeded such standards and no actions have been taken. An article from the Chicago Tribune reported that the radiation emitted by Apple, Samsung, and Motorola were beyond the threshold set by FCC “particularly when tested close to the body.” This may be the case since the FCC permits manufacturers to administer their own Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) testing and does not verify industry claims through independent tests. Moreover, FCC regulations can be said to be out of date. Such regulations were established in 1996 which undoubtedly do not account the recent mobile phone technologies and their effects. During the February 2019 Commerce Committee hearing on 5G, Senator Richard Blumental of Connecticut aired concerns against FCC and FDA for “failing to conduct research into the safety of 5G technology.” Many cities took legal action and won against FCC for wrestling local control to advance 5G. For them, environmental studies must be conducted as a prerequisite for telecommunication companies. In line with this, the Environmental Health Trust challenged FCC in court for failing to update U.S. radiation guidelines and for turning a blind eye on studies that proved the hazards from low-level radiation transmitted by wireless handheld devices. Level Of Public Awareness Unknown to many, cell phones emit radiofrequency radiation continually regardless if they are being actively used or not. This is because these devices connect to cell towers the moment they are turned on. As mentioned, the amount of radiation intensifies depending on the technology, distance of the device to the body and cell towers, and reception of devices. Way Forward There are many ways on how users can reduce their exposure to radiofrequency radiation.  Avoid using cellphones for a long period. Mobile devices shall only be used for brief conversations or in case of unavailability of landline phones.Refrain from making phone calls or using devices such as tablets in places with bad reception. The amount of radiation the cell phones emit is based on how strong or weak the reception is. Weaker reception means greater radiation.Use wired devices or hands-free technology, such as wired headsets. This allows the user to keep a safe distance from devices; thus, thwarting the aggressive emission of radiofrequency radiation.Use electromagnetic field radiation protection for cell phones, tablets, and laptops. These products provide lab tested shielding technology that can block over 99% of radiofrequency and 92% of extremely low frequency radiation.

Understanding WiFi and its potential dangers

on Oct 20 2022
IS WIFI DANGEROUS?Its practically impossible to avoid WiFi in our modern world!  Wifi is EVERYWHERE!  People are educating themselves and becoming more aware of the dangers of electronic devices and technology like WiFi.  There are few places a person can go without running into an electronic device that is using WiFi. In fact, we often seek out WiFi in a public space for our own personal use. With WiFi being so widespread it begs the question…. Is WiFi dangerous? Since WiFi is so widespread, many are starting to think of the potential side effects of being around this type of technology so frequently.  It takes understanding and effort to manage a whole day without encounter WiFi.  Since it is such an unavoidable factor in everyday life we need to learn about the danger it brings. HOW WIFI WORKSWiFi is something that almost everyone has exposure to.It is necessary to complete many jobs, to shop, and even to use our smartphones or other electronic devices. To use WiFi there are radio waves that will give the ability for devices to connect to a network.  This connection to the network is provided by a wireless adapter. There are many devices that are able to provide WiFi and some are called hotspots that anyone can take with them if they are traveling.  WIFI WORKS The use of WiFi connection requires a device to give off radio waves.  These radio waves carry the information from the device to the network.  If using a smartphone there is a wireless adapter in the device that turns any information into a radio signal.  This signal is then sent through an antenna to the local router.  This router is going to translate this information and send it through an Ethernet connection that is wired to the desired end location. Many instances of WiFi use is not a one-way street.  There will be a transfer of information back and forth between two parties.  The radio waves will be bouncing from each device to their respective routers and then back to their desired party.  Creating a constant exposure to WiFi and the radiation produced when using the system. Even though this technology is very helpful in our everyday lives it is also proving to be very dangerous.  The danger stems from the lack of knowledge about exposure and the lack of understanding of what the long-term results may be.  DANGERS OF PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO WIFIWiFi uses a system of wireless routers much like the technology Bluetooth.  While these systems are in use they are giving off electromagnetic radiation.  The level that this radiation field operates at is shown to be dangerous through long-term exposure. Since WiFi is a wireless system it is able to pass through objects, doors, and walls.  Similarly, EMF is able to pass through these items to reach new areas.  People who are not in the same room as the system can still be exposed to radiation. DANGERS OF PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO WIFI A major problem with this exposure is the use of the system. (source)  These routers run all day long.  They are only shut off when they are being moved or replaced.  A person’s exposure to WiFi and the radiation from the system is constant.  No matter the time of day they are absorbing this potentially dangerous radiation. Almost everyone uses WiFi.  In any given area there may be multiple WiFi sources providing the service.  For those that have neighbors that live close to them, they may feel the effects of their neighbors system, as well.  When in public almost every business has a public WiFi system and most also have a private one only for the business to use. People who are becoming more aware of these dangerous have started to try to avoid the use of WiFi.  They may take steps to reduce their exposure at home.  Which can include unplugging their own router and only using it when they absolutely need to.  As many devices use WiFi this can be quite the disruption of everyday life.  Plus they are still being exposed when they go to work or to shop.  PROBLEMS SLEEPINGThere are increased rates of insomnia or trouble sleeping.  People are using electronic devices and surrounding themselves with devices that use WiFi.  Then they are finding they are unable to fall asleep, stay asleep, and are more tired when they wake up.  These devices and technology are stopping people from getting a good night’s rest.PROBLEMS SLEEPING People who frequently use WiFi just before going to sleep report that they often have insomnia.  With this report, researchers have set out to learn why.  As they have researched they have found that WiFi is giving off EMF radiation which changes a person’s sleep pattern.  Thus causing more people to suffer from insomnia. The short-term effects of lack of sleep can cause a person to feel tired and run down the next day.  If a person continues to have trouble sleeping and suffer from insomnia they have an increased chance of becoming ill due to a lowered immune system, they may see changes in weight, have a disruption of hormone production, see changes in mood, have an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, have problems maintaining blood pressure, and much more.  FORMATIVE YEARSChildren are fantastic at using new technology.  They are even better than some of the adults that are in charge of the devices.  They have grown up in a world where technology is all around them and it makes it easier for them to understand it.  It also makes it very easy for them to have access to technology whether it is at home, at the store, or at school. FORMATIVE YEARS   While technology helps children learn there are studies that show the radiation from WiFi networks, that are necessary for many devices to be used, can affect their development.  Changing the development while so young could lead to even bigger problems as these children age. Another concern is with those that are pregnant and using WiFi.  The safety standards for electronic devices and WiFi are not thinking about pregnancy.  EMF radiation is not studied with the thought of pregnant women or the fetus.  Making it even more important for people to be conscious of their exposure. HEALTH CONCERNS WITH YOUNGER USERSAs previously outlined, children may be the biggest suffers from the effects of radiation from WiFi.  Their extreme exposure to EMF has now been related to diseases like asthma and even obesity which are both major concerns for parents. (source)  These problems can follow them into adulthood and have a large impact on their day to day lives. There are also studies that are connecting EMF radiation exposure to other problems that face children.  Problems that include ADHD or the focus of a child’s mind, their ability to recall and remember information, and their overall cognitive ability.  A Swedish study showed that children who are using electronic devices before they have turned twenty are four times as likely to have a brain tumor.  HARMFUL TO HUMAN & PLANT GROWTHPeople are becoming more and more interested in studying what exposure to WiFi may do.  Even those in the younger generations are doing their own studies as this is a problem that will plague their lives until a solution is found.  A sciences experiment in Denmark was completed by students to study the effect of WiFi on the growth of a plant. The students used a control group which was a set of plants placed in a room without WiFi.  That is the room was free of modems that emit WiFi.  Another set of plants were placed in a room with two modems.  Results from this study where hard to argue.  The plants that were free to grow without WiFi and the radiation that is given off were able to grow as expected.  The second set of plants did not show any growth.  It appeared that the radiation stopped the plants from being able to grow.  Other studies have suggested that prolonged exposure to EMF radiation can actually damage the cells of the organism close by. AFFECTING BRAINSEven though it has already been discussed that WiFi changes our sleep patterns and can affect child development it is important to note that it is able to change brain activity.  The EMF radiation that is produced when WiFi is used has been shown in studies to actually slow the activity of the brain. FERTILITY (MALES)Since many people use electronic devices and are around WiFi at all points in their day there are raising concerns about fertility.  Specifically, the effect that these devices and technology has on male fertility.  When exposed to EMF there is the possibility for DNA defragmentation in a male’s sperm cells. FERTILITY (MALES) Paired with this is the reduction of motility that the sperm has.  It has been shown that the extreme temperatures devices like a laptop produce while in use actually kill sperm cells.  With all of these side effects, a male may see an increasing problem with procreation due to a reduction of their fertility.  Here is and interesting study from the National library of Medicine on reproductive effects.  PROCREATION (FEMALES)Females show similar problems with procreation when exposed to EMF radiation over long periods of time.  Their side effects can stop an egg from implanting itself in the uterus.  There have almost been increases in abnormalities in pregnancies. When a person who is pregnant is exposed to EMF radiation for a prolonged time period they are at a higher risk for miscarriage.  Studies suggest their risk is three times higher than those that avoid exposure. Studies on mice have helped to show the possible causes of problems during pregnancies for human candidates.  By exposing pregnant mice to Extremely Low-Frequency radiation the mice had more spontaneous abortions and their offspring had an increased number of deformities.  The number of offspring produced were also decreased and the offspring showed slower development after they were born. CANCERSA huge worry of many people is cancer.  Cancer has been found to be linked to many activities that people routinely enjoy.  Unfortunately, that includes the use of electronic devices and WiFi.  The EMF radiation exposure while using such devices and technology increases a person’s risk of getting cancer. People that have been exposed to large doses of EMF see a shorter latency period for developing cancer after exposure.  Even though not everyone is exposed to high levels of EMF those that see EMF exposure in small doses may need to be concerned.  Even in small doses, cancer is able to develop after long-term exposure. STRESS ON THE HEARTThere are many factors that can cause stress on the heart.  Stress on the heart is best avoided by those that already have a heart condition.  A person who has been exposed to EMF will have increased heart rates and stress on the heart.  Those that are extremely sensitive to exposure may have an erratic heart rate.  This erratic heart rate can be fatal for some.  HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELFAs previously noted, its almost impossible to escape WiFi and EMF signals that make up modern living.  Its VERY EASY to simply ignore the potential effects of all the signals around us!  Though the thought that such a useful technology is dangerous is very daunting, there is some good news.  There are products that can help a person be safer while using products that will expose them to dangerous levels of radiation. If you’re looking to manage your exposures, there are tools to help!  Tools for Wellness  offers several tools to help!  Tools for Wellness takes an active approach in looking for tested products that assist in the health as it relates to emf.  One of the easiest and smartest ways to protect yourself is to add a cell phone case  to your mobile.   Understand your exposures and educate yourself.  Tools are available that can help with out interrupting lifestyle.

The History of Tuning Forks

on Oct 05 2022
Tuning forks look exactly like their name describes — a calibrated metal fork with two prongs that are used to tune a variety of musical instruments like pianos and can even be used in a cappella group to set the pitch. While today many musicians carry an electronic tuning fork, the traditional tuning forks still have a wide variety of applications from musical concerts to even offering advancements in the world of sound therapy. At Tools for Wellness, we are dedicated to providing a wide selection of products that are designed specifically to promote your overall well-being. Whether you are looking for cognitive enhancement, peak physical or mental performance, consciousness exploration, and expansion, optimal wellness, self-improvement, or simply living smarter, our team has the best products to help you in your wellness journey. In today’s post, we will be covering the history of the tuning fork while exploring its popularity in modern-day healing techniques. Keep reading to learn more or shop our assortment of tuning forks and sound therapy resources today! Musical Significance The tuning fork was invented in 1711 by renowned musician, instrument maker, and trumpeter of the English Royal Court, John Shore. Before the days of the tuning forks, musicians had to rely solely on wooden pitch pipes for tuning their instruments — which are far more susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity, creating an unreliable tuning device. The tuning fork, on the other hand, is made of metal and can create a pure tone in a wide range of temperatures and environments making it the most ideal tuning frequency device. This tool allowed composers to play works of art from the greats like Handel, Mozart, and Beethoven, at the frequencies that they were meant to be played at. With its early invention, the tuning fork helped musicians define both national and eventually international standards for concert pitch (A=440Hz) as well as contributing to the universal equal temperament keyboard tuning system. Shore’s tuning fork is also attributed to the creation of many modern-day musical instruments including the Fender-Rhodes electric piano’s central sound-producing function. While invented primarily for music, the tuning fork has become quite popular amongst the scientific community as well.     The Science Behind Tuning Forks In the 19th century, scientists became interested in the scientific understanding of the relationship between frequency and perceived pitch, using the tuning fork as their primary experiment method. Every time you strike a tuning fork, the two prongs of the fork (tines) echo vibrations off of air molecules, translating to a gentle hum in your ear. The vibrations are moving so fast at several hundred times per second, making them invisible to the human eye, but our hearing perceives these vibrations as frequencies. The faster the frequency, the higher the pitch.     Tuning Forks For Healing Therapies Sound waves are used in many healing therapies due to their non-invasive, holistic approaches. The tuning fork, while initially created for musical use, has become a powerful tool in sound therapy and healing, even dating back to Ancient Egyptian times. Tuning forks can be used to create a wide range of frequencies ranging from 64 Hz to 4096 Hz, but the most common frequency for sound therapy is 128 Hz. The frequency of vibrations produced travel through our bodies to help promote relaxation, energy flow, and balance.     The Tuning Fork — A Tool for Wellness Tuning forks are used in both sound therapy and healing to help treat a variety of conditions like: Chronic pain Exhaustion Hypersensitive nervous system Headaches Pain caused by physical trauma Insomnia or low-quality sleep Joint problems Cramps Digestive problems     If you are curious about how the tuning fork could help your health, explore Tools for Wellness’s wide variety of resources and tuning forks today!

Four Chemicals That May Be in Your Drinking Water

on Oct 05 2022
In many first-world countries, like The United States of America, people drink, cook, bathe, and provide water for their pets, along with other daily tasks involving water without a second thought to what chemicals or contaminants could be lurking. With more recent water boil advisories and crises like Flint, Michigan, there has been an increasing consumer need for water filter systems to help keep their families safe. At Tools for Wellness, our products are designed specifically with your safety and health in mind. We offer top-of-the-line products like our Berkey Water Filters, to help provide consumers with safer water for their daily uses. In today’s post, we are going to go over the four most common contaminants and chemicals that are found in many people’s drinking water. Keep reading to learn more and shop our water purifiers today! Lead Many water suppliers are held to certain standards for water quality and safety, but did you know that violations are routinely made putting consumers at risk? Lead is a common heavy metal that can stem from corrosion of lead pipes and plumbing fixtures, causing neurological and behavioral problems in both children and adults. Arsenic The Environmental Protection Agency set arsenic limits at ten parts per billion (ppb) in 2001, but in a more recent study, arsenic levels are proving much more harmful than initially thought — in fact, 17 times more toxic. While this chemical is steadily decreasing, it is still important to note it is a main cancer-causing agent and should routinely be screened for.     Atrazine Atrazine is a pesticide that is commonly found in drinking water supplies across the midwest and other agricultural states. This chemical can cause hormone issues and birth defects along with certain cancers, as well as leukemia and lymphoma. Pathogens In more recent years, there has been a big focus on pathogens and how they are transmitted. Bacteria, viruses, and parasites commonly find their way into drinking water supplies. While many municipal filtration systems filter for these contaminants, some outbreaks still happen, resulting in boil advisories. One of the most common strands is E. coli, which can cause severe digestive pains and issues.     Due to the adverse health effects of many of these contaminants and chemicals, many homeowners across the nation have opted for additional water purifiers like a Berkey Water Filter, to remove pharmaceuticals, pesticides, heavy metals, and other harmful elements in their drinking water. To provide your family with peace of mind and further protection, Tools for Wellness, offers the best water filter systems available. Shop now!

Sound therapy is a treatment option that uses different frequencies and vibrations to help people relax and heal emotionally. There are those that claim it can even heal the body physically. It is a modern, popular wellness trend that aims to improve your mental health and emotional well-being. For some, it is even used as a way to ward off evil spirits. It has been around for centuries and was utilized to motivate soldiers and improve productivity. Learn more below and shop at Tools for Wellness today!  Boosting Confidence Several ways that we use music in everyday life are to help us get through intense situations, distract us while performing menial tasks, or entertain us when we are bored. In each of these scenarios, how does sound help? Sound therapy can boost your confidence by creating positive patterns in your brain that keep you going. People that exercise regularly use it to keep their spirits up and their body moving. That menial task might get done a lot quicker when listening to music because your spirits are lifted. Music can help someone that is bored by inspiring them to get up and try something new. We all use sounds and music in different ways, and increasing confidence is one of them.   Physical Treatment While modern science may not be able to explain exactly why, many claim that it can and should be used in the treatment of physical ailments. It isn’t necessarily healing cuts and bruises, but there are other areas of human health where there have been some interesting observations. Its ability to lower stress goes hand-in-hand with encouraging a better night of sleep. Better sleeping patterns are definitely a way to impact you physically, as well as mentally. Some studies have also observed that people who tried sound therapy lowered their blood pressure and cholesterol levels. It has even been successfully used for pain management.    Mental Health Treatment Many people who suffer from mental health problems use medication and traditional therapy to treat their symptoms. While there is nothing wrong with that route, sound therapy and natural treatments like it could be equally beneficial for the patients. Disorders like anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) often involve the person being stuck in their own head with racing, often worrying or negative, thoughts. Sound therapy gives you something external to focus on, allowing the person to escape for a moment and be at peace. It has also been shown to help the elderly and those with autism spectrum disorder. For people with dementia and similar illnesses, it can assist with memory recall. For those on the spectrum, music can have a calming effect.     You Choose Your Path With traditional therapy, you generally schedule periodic appointments where you meet with a professional. But, what if you experience a crisis in between sessions and have no one to turn to? Sound therapy comes in handy in situations like this. You can do it entirely on your own, on your personal schedule, and utilize it if you are feeling anxious, depressed, or stressed.  If you have any interest in sound therapy, don’t hesitate to give it a try for yourself. Many people across history and around the world claim that it has helped them heal spiritually, mentally, and physically. There is no inherent risk at all — it’s just sound — so give it a try! Tools for Wellness has tuning forks and other therapy devices that can get you started on the path to wellness. Shop our selection today to see for yourself!
