How it works

Audio-Visual Entrainment (AVE) delivers gentle pulses of light through the eyeset and matching tones through the headphones. The brain tends to fall into step with a steady rhythm, a response called frequency following, which researchers can observe on EEG within a few minutes. Each session is built around a target range: faster rhythms for alertness, slower rhythms for relaxation and sleep. Sessions end with a gradual soft-off fade so you are not startled.

AVE has been studied for more than 30 years. Published work includes shorter sleep onset in older adults using evening sessions, improved seasonal mood scores with morning sessions, attention gains in students, and mood and balance improvements in seniors. • Tru-Vu Omniscreen eyeset. Eight blue-tinted white LEDs behind a translucent screen spread light evenly across both eyes and can drive each side at a different rate.
• Randomized stimulation. Small variations within each session help the brain follow the rhythm without habituating to it.

Gamma activity around 40 Hz is associated with higher-level processing and sharp attention. The Plus includes three ways to work with it: a session that cycles between 40 Hz and the calming SMR range (12 to 15 Hz), a randomized session that varies around 38 to 42 Hz, and a fixed 40 Hz session.
