Twenty-five inches of Om. The Om Energy Chime Bar is the longest bar we carry, a 25 inch heat-treated aluminum alloy rod suspended above a wood base and tuned to 136.1 Hz, the frequency sound healing calls the Cosmic Om. It is the Earth's year raised into hearing range, the same tone as the Om tuning fork and the heart pipe of our Chakra chime. A bar this long rings low and slow, with a hum you feel in the chest as much as hear, and it sustains long enough to carry a whole breath.

A low frequency needs a long bar, which is why this one runs 25 inches. It is cut to ring at 136.1 Hz and mounted above a wood base so nothing damps its vibration. A strike from the rubber-faced mallet sets it ringing, and the tone carries for several seconds with a deep, warm set of overtones.

136.1 Hz is the Earth's orbital year doubled octave by octave into the audible range, a method set out by Hans Cousto, and it sits close to the pitch traditionally used for the Om drone in Indian music. Sound healing pairs it with the heart chakra. Why is 136.1 Hz called the Om frequency?

Hans Cousto derived 136.1 Hz from the length of the Earth's year, and it sits close to the pitch traditionally used for the Om drone in Indian music. Sound healing adopted it as the Om tone and pairs it with the heart chakra. We also carry the Om wind chime and the 136.1 Hz Om tuning fork.

Chime bar or tuning fork?

A chime bar sits on a base and rings longer and louder with a strike, so it fills a room and frees your hands. A tuning fork is handheld and focused, for work close to the body. Many practitioners keep both in the same frequency.

Why is it so much longer than the other bars?

Pitch depends on length. A bar tuned to 136.1 Hz has to be roughly twice as long as one tuned to 528 Hz, which is also why the Om bar has the deepest, longest-sustaining voice in the range.
