Om Wind Chime | Higher Octave of the 136.1 Hz Om Tone

The Om tone, hung by a window. The Om Wind Chime carries slim aluminum tubes tuned to a higher octave of 136.1 Hz, the frequency sound healing calls the Cosmic Om. It is the Earth's year raised into hearing range, the same tone as the Om tuning fork and the heart chakra pipe in our Chakra chime, and in Indian classical music it is the drone note that everything else settles around. Raised an octave so slim tubes can carry it, the chime keeps that grounded, settling quality in a light, clear voice.

About 29 inches long with 1/2 inch tubes, the longest 16 inches, this is the small format: it sounds in the lightest draft and suits a window, bedroom, treatment room, or covered porch.

136.1 Hz is the Earth's orbital year converted to sound: one cycle per year, doubled octave by octave until it reaches the audible range, a method set out by Hans Cousto. That frequency is too low for a small tube to ring well, so this chime is tuned to a higher octave of it, which keeps the same pitch class in a brighter register. When the wind catcher moves, the striker sounds the tubes and you hear the Om tone in unison.

In sound healing, 136.1 Hz is paired with the heart chakra and with the sound of Om itself. What research supports: a single sustained tone is an effective anchor for meditation, and calm environmental sound lowers perceived stress.

  • Tuned to a higher octave of the 136.1 Hz Om (Earth year) frequency
  • Matches the Om tuning fork and the heart pipe of the Chakra chime
  • Small format sounds in the lightest indoor draft
  • Light enough for a window, bedroom, or treatment room
  • Aluminum tubes hold pitch and resist weather
  • Passive sound tool: no playing required

Small single-frequency chimes

432 Hz: five tubes, 432 Hz in octaves, about 30 in. Warm.

528 Hz: five tubes, the Solfeggio MI tone in octaves, about 30 in. Bright.

Why is 136.1 Hz called the Om frequency?

Hans Cousto derived 136.1 Hz from the length of the Earth's year, and it happens to sit close to the pitch traditionally used for the Om drone in Indian music. Sound healing adopted it as the Om tone and pairs it with the heart chakra. We also carry it as an Om chime bar.

Why a higher octave rather than 136.1 Hz itself?

A tube tuned to 136.1 Hz would need to be far longer and heavier than a small chime allows. A higher octave is the same note in a brighter register, which is how every small chime handles a low fundamental.

Can it stay outdoors year-round?

The aluminum pipes handle weather well. A covered spot protects the wood parts.
